Sandy obtained a diploma in graphic design from the Malaysia Institute of Art (MIA). After graduating, Sandy pursued a career as a full-time graphic designer and a Chinese translator.
By 2013 she had begun engaging in the fine arts industry and had successfully carved out a name for herself in the art scene. She exhibits her work both in group and solo exhibitions. Sandy has also published a non-fiction book titled <倾听心中花园> Listen to My Heart, a collection of short prose reflecting on life and philosophy, and beautifully illustrated with her watercolour paintings.
Inspired by the beauty and humble settings of her natural surroundings, she uses the vibrancy and harmony of colours in her various expressions of life, conceived with raw freedom, pleasure, energy, and originality.
Her artworks depict the lives of local folks against the cultural backdrops of the country, where people live in harmony with nature. The subject of her vibrant art centres around a rustic kampung environment and blooming flora such as our national flowers “Hibiscus”, “Anthurium”, “Orchid,”, “Birds of Paradise”, and “Sunflower”. Flowers symbolise geniality, euphoria, and abundance, while the fish, birds, butterflies, and cats in her art pieces convey sentiments of joy, contentment, and hope in life.
Most of the compositions in her works are symbolic of tranquil harmony in nature. To bring the paintings to life, Sandy applied delicate brush and knife strokes to create layers of rich textures in her aesthetically mesmerising art pieces.
Besides being a contemporary artist, Sandy also plays the pipa. She believes that the arts—painting and music—are interlinked. Hence, she exudes deep passion, whether it is playing the pipa or creating spectacular works of art.
